Anyone else getting fed up with the crappy weather. Its hard to stay positive and focus on doing the sessions we want to be doing at the moment. Snow and ice are fast becoming the biggest depressants for us warm weather, summer loving Triathletes...
Here in the UK we want to be getting those base rides - the long steady runs. We all do - anyone that says otherwise is talking rubbish... but you know what?
It doesn't matter... too much!
The snow, the ice, the cold, thoise dark nights - they will end soon... if not global warming really is bollocks. Stick with the Turbo (or Rollers), use the treadmill (but it doesn't have to stop your long steady runs) and use the time to work on the swim. Failing that, chuck in some conditioning or core work, enter some races... buy some new kit... anything to keep your motivation up.
Quote of the moment: "Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!"
I know, I know its Rocky (again) but for the moment its apt - we gotta keep moving forward, no matter what the weather, or life, or anything else for that matter throws at us. Life is supposed to be hard - its supposed to be a struggle, we realise that... that's why we chose Triathlon as a sport.
We can't control the weather - its one of the few things we can't do anything about - it is what is. Let's deal with it and move on...
Everytime you think I'm not going out, its cold, its icy, blah, blah, blah - think about this instead... if you don't go out will you get the benefit - no. If you go out in the crappy snow, ice, wind and rain, will all your competitors... don't know, maybe, but I can't control what they do either - that's one of the other things we can't control.
Focus on what you can do. Do or do not, there is no try... thank you Yoda for that pearl of wisdom.
AND (although you've already grabbed your kit and left - you're better than that!) for those of you who still need a kick up the backside to go and do something watch this:
